A recent request from our HPE department was to be able to mark the roll on their iPads on the oval and in the sports hall, in the past the staff grouped up the students outside the nearest building with good WiFi reception. This took 5 to 10 minutes out of class time.
The solution I designed was to have two Cisco 1252 APs inside the sports hall, the 1252s are configured with both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz radios. To gain coverage inside of the sports hall we used the 5Ghz radio using the standard Cisco antennas. For the oval coverage we used the 2.4Ghz radios, each AP coupled with 3 110º, 10dBi sector antennas.
The antennas are positioned around 5M above the ground. First tests showed that I was able to walk the perimeter of both the ovals whilst still maintaing full reception on my iPhone. The furthest distance measured was 180 meters away, although signal was a little low, there was still enough bandwidth to be able to load the school’s administration system in Safari.
